SOLIDARITY FOOD BASKETS

Guatemala has been heavily impacted by COVID-19, but in the weeks and months to come, the full effects of the pandemic will be mostly felt in rural areas and Indigenous communities.

Through our friends at the non-profit Mesoamerican Permaculture Institute (IMAP) who remain on the ground working with farmers to ensure families have access to organic and nutritious native seeds and crops, we invite you to stand in solidarity with frontline defenders of the world’s biodiversity as they face the impacts of this global pandemic.

Our goal is to raise C$5,000 and provide emergency food baskets for 70 families.

For as little as C$70, you can provide food for a family of 5 for one month

SOLIDARITY BASKET FOR 1 MONTH
FOR A FAMILY OF 5

5 lbs of amaranth flour

16 oz. of amaranth cereal

50 lbs of corn

20 lbs of beans

8 varieties of native seeds

Your Financial Contribution Will:

  • Go entirely to provide emergency food baskets to 70 families in the Indigenous communities of Tierra Santa, San Martin, Cerro de Oro, San Lucas, and Pachitulul, Guatemala

  • Sustain rural families in Guatemala and give seeds so that they can produce their own food and share their surplus

  • Support the local economy by purchasing and distributing local food

In the early days of quarantine, the Mesoamerican Permaculture Institute (IMAP) produced a video for local communities to raise awareness about the importance of growing food. However, most families do not have access to seeds.

Your donation will enable IMAP to distribute food and seeds directly to families who need it most.
